Upper River Services is committed to providing quality services to the inland marine transportation industry in a safe, environmentally sound, and efficient manner.
Established in 1984, Upper River Services has strived to become a premier commercial river harbor operation, while, at the same time, recognizing its responsibility as a member of the overall river community. The result is a business with an economically solid foundation that protects and enhances, where and when it can, the ecosystem in which it exists.
Upper River Services is a full-service inland harbor river operation. We offer barge towing, barge fleeting, barge cleaning, two full-service shipyards with a dry dock and marine ways, crane services, dock repair, a full machine shop, and fueling services.
Upper River Services operates six towing vessels. Our vessels are dispatched to service customers in the St. Paul and Savage harbors and use state-of-the-art technology to keep customers informed. Our vessels are United States Coast Guard inspected and in compliance with USCG Subchapter M requirements.
Upper River Services cleans non-CDC dry cargoes at both the Pigs Eye and State Street locations; the State Street cleaning location is also a United States Coast Guard approved tank barge cleaning facility. All cleaning services are environmentally sustainable and comply with local, state, and federal requirements. We also offer a wide range of repair services including, but not limited to, marine ways and dry dock services, welding, fiberglass repairs, crane barge and floating repair rigs, and a full machine shop.

CURRENT OPENINGSCalled ‘silent giants’ barges carry millions of tons of commodities through St. Paul on the Mississippi River. The river provides both jobs and an environmentally friendly option to move goods without adding trains to tracks, or trucks to roads.
